Different types of business waste
All businesses with ten or more employees now have to follow national laws on separating out waste that is suitable for recycling. This means:
- cans and plastics
- paper and cardboard
- glass
- food waste
We call non-recyclable materials general waste, residual waste or refuse.
View our page on Simpler Recycling legislation, to get guidance on how to comply. We have all the containers you'll need to manage your recycling responsibilities, as well as your residual waste. You can also learn about business waste collection times.

Your options for containers
We provide a variety of containers that you can purchase to manage your business waste and recycling.
Wheelie bins
These are more likely to be suitable if you have plenty of space for storage within the boundary of your business property, good access for collection vehicles, and you frequently produce larger volumes of waste.
Bins are priced per collection, on a sliding scale, depending on the size of the bin and what it's being used for. You'll pay more per collection for a wheelie bin, but if your business produces a large volume of waste, then bins are a much more economical option than sacks and stickers.

Sacks and stickers
These are more suitable if your storage space is limited and your waste and recycling production is infrequent.
If your business is in Central Bath and you use sacks and stickers, you'll need to follow time restrictions on when your waste can be put out and must be collected.
Sacks and stickers have a unit price, which includes the cost of collection by us. The cost to collect waste sacks is a lot smaller per sack, but if your business produces a large volume of waste, then bins are a much more economical option.
