We are undertaking essential works underneath a section of Stall Street in Bath, in front of the Roman Baths Shop. As a precautionary measure the above ground area has been closed to vehicles and pedestrians. The safety barriers will remain in place during the set up and removal of the wooden chalets and throughout the Christmas Market, which is open to the public from Wednesday 26 November to Sunday 14 December 2025.
Due to limited space and to ensure public safety, we recommend that buskers and street performers do not perform in the area from Monday 17 November to Friday 19 December. You should ensure there is an adequate distance between your pitch and the market chalets. Council officers may need to ask buskers performing nearby to relocate if your presence causes concerns around crowd flow, public safety, and/or risk to the public highway.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Please also be aware of our rules for busking and street performance in Bath.
Please note the Reuse Shop will be closing over Christmas and New Year for our staff to take a well earned break.
The last day of opening will be Saturday 20 December and it will reopen on Saturday 3 January.
During the closure, donations cannot be accepted. Items left outside will be placed in general waste, so please hold onto your donations until the shop reopens.
Thank you for your support and for helping us reuse this festive season!
The one-way experimental trial for the Lyme Road and Charmouth Road area is postponed until we have engaged the community on a wider package of measures for this LN area.
We have submitted a full business case (FBC) to the West of England Combined Authority to secure approval and funds to deliver a package of measures in 11 LN areas by March 2027.
Empty hairspray, deodorant, shaving foam or polish cans can be recycled. Check that the container is empty and place in your green recycling container alongside household plastics and cans. If your aerosols are not empty, take them to your local Recycling Centre. Never squash or pierce aerosol cans. Find out more at Recycle Aluminium.

We are working in partnership with Bath and West Community Energy to launch an offer for joint energy surveys in Autumn 2025, as part of the Green Heritage Homes project. These surveys will provide retrofit advice for listed buildings from both a heritage and a technical energy perspective.
Surveys will include a shared home visit from a Council Conservation Officer, providing Service Level 0 pre-app advice, and a BWCE assessor, providing one of BWCE’s energy surveys.
Surveys can be booked via the BWCE website and are eligible for Retrofit West discount vouchers. This joint survey service cannot be booked through B&NES Council.
We have considered your feedback on Liveable Neighbourhood proposals for this area. See Public Engagement Outcomes and the final list of proposals for the area outlined below.
A decision has now been reached to make the New Sydney Place and Sydney Road through-traffic restriction permanent under Traffic Regulation Order 25-012.
To read the decision notice and the reports summarising the outcomes of the statutory 21-day public TRO consultation, please view the legal notices. You can also read a press release.
Please note, due to essential works being undertaken on Midland Road as part of the Western Riverside housing development, you may experience some delay entering the Recycling Centre.
If you are delayed due to queueing traffic, your booking slot will be honoured.
The public consultation report for the Bath Walking, Wheeling, and Cycling Links scheme has now been published.
The consultation report is being finalised and reviewed. It will now be published in July. It will include answers to the questions previously raised through Cabinet, as an appendix.
Ahead of the publication, we would like to share some initial highlights and summaries from the report. There was support for the some proposals with 66% of responses strongly supporting or supporting the City Centre to Kennet & Avon Canal route and more than half were in favour of the Royal United Hospital links route. Feedback demonstrated agreement that some of the routes would lead to a shift toward active modes, with disagreement on this point on others. We also received suggested additional/alternative walking and cycling improvements to improve the schemes.
Respondents believed the removal of parking spaces needs to be revisited and the proposals are not fully inclusive. In addition, some respondents said there would be an adverse impact on those who are dependent on cars and public transport. Within the Links to Royal United Hospital survey, respondents raised the effect of the proposals on the Royal United Hospital and other medical facilities.
Finally, a suggestion across all surveys was the need for improved public transport services, as well as suggesting infrastructure improvements to reduce traffic speeds.
This feedback received is key to supporting the development of Bath Walking, Wheeling, and Cycling Links. We encourage the community to sign up to alerts to stay updated throughout the project. Upcoming alerts will outline the project's development timeline and its next steps.

Updated 20 June 2025.
In light of national Planning policy changes and the publication of a new National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) in December 2024, we reset our approach to our Local Plan in February 2025.
This consultation is now closed. A decision to make the trial permanent under a standard Traffic Regulation Order by the Cabinet Member for Resources was upheld following a call-in, and the restriction and junction improvements will now be made permanent under a formal TRO.
For the latest news on this Liveable Neighbourhood, please read the following statement by Cllr Kevin Guy, Leader of the Council.
Our intention was to engage the community on preliminary designs for this area in spring 2025. The measures to be included in the design were summarised at a high level in the final business case (FBC) for the programme including a bus gate on Camden Road, a series of one-ways, and a through-traffic restriction to help reduce traffic volumes in residential areas.
Following the statement by Cllr Kevin Guy, we will not progress these plans. For background on the FBC, please read the press release from 12 October 2024.
Due to issues with anti-social behaviour opening hours at the following facilities are reduced until further notice:
We apologise for any inconvenience.
This consultation closed on 8 August 2024.
You can read the final TRO report here.
The results and recommendations from the public consultation are contained within Appendix 3 of the final TRO report. The breakdown of charges for vehicles parking in Midsomer Norton and Radstock can be found within Appendix D of the results and recommendation report.
From Monday 1 April 2024, you will need to pay £22.40 for a replacement wheelie bin for your rubbish if it is lost or stolen.
Please note that the charge for replacement wheeled black bins was agreed in our 2022/23 budget to help offset the purchase and delivery costs associated with providing a replacement bin.
