Highways Services, ‘Alpha’ begins

We start to see designs come to life at the end of the first Alpha sprint

Reading time - 2 minutes

The Alpha phase is all systems go. Following on from Discovery, we had a busy few weeks. We used this time for planning and preparation, which included forming the team with the right skills to deliver the Alphas.

With a strong emphasis on redesigning Highways public facing web content, our Web Team colleagues now form a key part of the Alpha Team.

The first sprint review focused on what we have set out to achieve in the Alpha phase, working on closely related opportunities, testing our riskiest assumptions and options through prototyping and gathering feedback.

Phases

Highways web content has been audited and analysed to check the content being viewed (or not!) with 3 key user needs types emerging: Report, Apply for or Find something.  Work has started on Applications with user journeys mapped and designs forming.

Also well underway is the work on improvements to how general enquiries (which can’t be channelled through FixMyStreet) are captured, processed and managed.  The first iteration of an in-house developed solution is already in test and was demo’d during the sprint review - great progress!

The team have also been preparing for FixMyStreet User Research during the first sprint.  This will provide us with baseline data for the full user research planned for later in the Alpha phase. Service users now have the option to provide contact details after reporting an issue online so that we can get in touch to find out more about the user experience.
