Green Infrastructure Framework for Bath and North East Somerset
The overriding purpose of our Green Infrastructure Framework is to bring about a better understanding of the benefits and value of green infrastructure (GI). How we plan, deliver, and manage GI to ensure we have resilient places for people requires changes in our approach as a council and continued partnership working with a wide range of organisations, businesses, and our communities.

Our Framework is intended for use by council officers and members, delivery partners and developers, local town and parish councils and community organisations.
We are committed to:
- Improving policy, practice, and process to create, restore, and maintain GI including securing long-term investment, to help meet climate and nature targets and address sustainability issues.
- Building, managing and maintaining robust evidence to inform decision making and monitor progress of delivery.
- Reducing inequalities in access to greenspace, improving quality, and ensuring provision meets the needs of local communities.
- Increasing urban greening in our streets and neighbourhoods to restore nature, provide climate resilience, create healthy places to live and attract investment.
- Continuing leadership and support for our GI and regional partnerships to deliver existing and expanded landscape scale programmes to deliver the multiple benefits that GI provides.
The Greener Places Plan 2025-2035 sets out the purpose and context of the Framework and its constituent components, and makes the case for significant and coordinated investment. It promotes understanding of what GI is, the multiple benefits it provides, and how to deliver it where it is needed most, for people and nature.
The Greener Places Investment & Delivery Plan 2025-2030 identifies actions to deliver the Greener Places Plan to achieve the vision for Bath and North East Somerset, and contribute to the delivery of regional strategies and plans.
Nature Towns and Cities Accreditation
Nature Towns and Cities accreditation is integral to our approach to place shaping, to identify and listen to what urban communities need and want, to create accessible greenspaces, streets and neighbourhoods that are good for wildlife, people and are climate resilient.
