You might need support because of a disability, physical or mental health need, your age or other circumstances that affect your independence and wellbeing. Or, because you're caring for someone else.

We're not just here in a crisis. We can help you find the right support early, so you can stay connected to your community, maintain your independence and continue doing the things that matter to you.

We can give you information and advice, connect you with local organisations, arrange equipment or home adaptations, or help you access care, wellbeing or support services from us or one of our partners.

How we work

We focus on what matters to you and the support that's already available around you. We work with you to find the right help, so you can live as independently and well as possible.

We will:

  • listen to what matters most to you
  • understand your strengths, skills and support networks
  • help you stay as independent as you are safely able to
  • work with you to manage risks and make informed choices
  • connect you with local services, groups and opportunities
  • make sure any decisions about your support are fair, lawful and in your best interest

Understanding the different types of support

There are several ways to get help in Bath and North East Somerset. The right option depends on your situation.

Livewell B&NES

Livewell B&NES is our online directory of local services, activities and support. It’s a good place to start looking for information and services that can help you or the person you care for stay active, connected and independent. Some services listed are free and others will have a cost.

Support is organised online by topic, so you can find information, advice and services related to a particular need or life situation all in one place.

You can search for:

  • help to live independently at home
  • physical and mental health support
  • support for carers
  • community activities and groups
  • housing options
  • money and legal support
  • care and support services

Community Wellbeing Hub

If you want to speak to someone or you’re not sure where to turn, one contact to the Community Wellbeing Hub can connect you to over 30 local organisations delivering health and wellbeing support.

The Hub can help with things like wellbeing, loneliness, housing, money concerns, support for carers and finding local services and activities. You can explore the full range of support on their services page.

Adult social care

Adult social care is a council service that supports adults with health, wellbeing and care or support needs.

If you need more than information, advice or support from local individuals or organisations, we can assess your needs and work with you to identify what help may be available. Depending on your circumstances, this could include support at home, occupational therapy, equipment and adaptations, or residential care arranged through the council.

I have concerns about an adult being abused or neglected.
