Go Green Widcombe: Practical Retrofit on Difficult Buildings

Example of a building that is difficult to retrofit for increased energy saving

Residents are invited to Practical Retrofit: Difficult Buildings, a free event hosted by Go Green Widcombe. The session focuses on how to approach retrofitting complex or hard to treat homes, including listed buildings and properties with heritage or structural constraints.

Guidance for complex and heritage buildings

The event will feature three short talks exploring real retrofit projects and the practical challenges involved. Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak directly with Retrofit Assessors, including a specialist in listed buildings, to discuss potential retrofit options and next steps.

Assessors from B&NES Green Heritage Homes will be available to offer impartial advice on improving energy efficiency in older and heritage properties.

Green Heritage Homes is a three year programme (2025-2028), jointly funded by Historic England, the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (WECA) and Curo, delivered in partnership with Bath & West Community Energy (BWCE).

Independent retrofit advice and local expertise

Attendees will also be able to speak with a small number of local installers listed in the Retrofit West Directory. Their presence is for general information only and does not imply endorsement by Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Residents seeking free, impartial retrofit advice can also access support through Retrofit West, which the council regularly signposts as part of its wider retrofit information offer.

Free HEEP Survey prize draw

Attendees will be invited to complete a feedback form. Completed forms will be entered into a prize draw run by Retrofit West, with the winner receiving a free Home Energy Efficiency Plan (HEEP) Survey, typically valued at over £100.

Event format

  • Arrive from 6.30pm to speak with assessors and installers before the talks begin.
  • Talks run from 7pm to 8pm.
  • Additional time for questions and one to one conversations will be available after the talks.

Feedback forms will be provided at the event, with an option to complete and return them by email if needed.
