Community Energy Workshop and Buffet - Batheaston and St. Catherine

A scene from a Community Energy Workshop

Whether you’re curious, cautious, or concerned, this workshop is for you. Together we’ll explore realistic scenarios for renewable energy in Batheaston and St. Catherine, and the possible benefits of community ownership.

The workshop takes place at Batheaston Village Hall, School Lane, Batheaston, BA1 7EP.

It’s a chance for local residents to share ideas, ask questions and shape what energy could look like in your area. Run by the Centre for Sustainable Energy as part of the Energy in Your Community project, the evening is open to everyone.

Enjoy a cold buffet and hot drinks from 6pm, then join us from 6.30pm to 8.30pm for an inspiring evening of conversation and collaboration.

You don’t need any prior knowledge, everything will be explained step by step in clear, jargon-free language.

What we'll do together

  • Talk about your local landscape – what feels precious and what could change. Learn the basics of community energy infrastructure like solar panels and wind turbines
  • Explore potential locations based on local sun and wind resources
  • Discuss how your areas could benefit financially from community-owned energy projects

Why it matters

  • Community-led energy keeps profits local, funding facilities and projects that matter to you
  • Local voices shape solutions that work for everyone, tackling climate change and creating funds to support local people with energy costs
  • Community ownership means decisions stay in your hands, not a commercial developer’s

Funding is available now for Batheaston and St. Catherine residents to pursue community energy infrastructure. It doesn’t need to be all figured out at once, though - this workshop is a first step, and if the community would like to take it further, next steps would be shaped by local people.

Our commitment

We start by listening. No decisions are made without your input.

What happens next

  • An online summary of the workshop discussion will be shared publicly. A survey will be available for those who couldn’t attend to add their thoughts and ideas.
  • A final report will be produced in Spring.
  • Further conversations will gather wider community views, and if there’s support, future workshops will take your ideas forward.

About Energy in Your Community

Communities can help to shape the way energy is produced and used in their area. Energy in Your Community is a project to support local people exploring and developing community-owned renewable energy suited to their area. It is part of the Community Energy Network, a partnership supported by Bath & North East Somerset Council, Bath & West Community Energy, the Centre for Sustainable Energy and the University of Bath. The aim is to support 5MW of community-owned renewable generation across the district by 2030.
