The Environmental Protection and Environmental Monitoring Teams form part of the Council's Public Protection Service and deal with a wide range of environmental problems. The teams deal with queries relating to:
Bonfires, Drainage, Light Nuisance, Noise Nuisance, Odour Nuisance, Rubbish Accumulations, Vermin on land other than your own, Air Quality, Clean Air Act, Contaminated Land, Environmental Permitting, Private Water Supplies and Smoke Control.

The Environmental Protection Team
Tel 01225 477551 - Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5.00pm, and 8.30am to 4.30pm Friday. They have responsibility for:

Improving public health by investigating and enforcement of statutory nuisances and environmental pollution, including drainage.

Regulating and maintaining the quality of life for the residents of B&NES.

Providing advice on planning and licensing consultations.

- Development and delivery of air quality action plans (in collaboration with the Transport Policy)
- Declarations of air quality management areas
- The risk assessment and monitoring of private water supplies
- River water monitoring
- The investigation of pollution incidents in certain circumstances
- Investigation of contaminated land sites.
