Community Energy Survey: Peasedown, Wellow and Shoscombe

If you live in Peasedown, Wellow or Shoscombe, we'd love to hear your views on community-owned renewable energy ideas, including wind and solar.

What we're asking about

Tell us what you think about:

  • the idea of working as a community to generate renewable energy locally
  • potential locations for wind and solar that have been identified and discussed through previous community events
  • local priorities and concerns
  • what you'd like to explore further

This survey is not about giving a definite yes or no to a specific wind or solar site or project. Instead, it asks if you'd like to learn more about community-owned renewable energy and explore how it might work in your local area. All views are welcome, whether supportive, opposed or unsure.

Why we're asking

This survey is part of the Energy in Your Community project, which supports communities to explore whether community-owned renewable energy could work in local areas, and what it might mean for local communities.

It builds on earlier community conversations and recent engagement events, including the Community Energy Forum held at The Hive in February 2026. We know we haven't heard from the whole community yet, so this survey broadens the conversation, giving everyone an opportunity to express their questions and ideas.

What is community-owned renewable energy

Community-owned renewable energy projects are owned and run by non-commercial local groups rather than commercial developers.

Any profits are typically reinvested locally to support community priorities, community facilities or energy-related projects. Some projects can also provide direct benefits to local residents.

What we've done so far

The locations included in this survey emerged through earlier community workshops, surveys and events where local people suggested areas that could be considered for further discussion.

At the Community Energy Forum in February, participants reviewed those earlier suggestions, alongside updated technical information relating to wind and solar energy. Read the report of the February forum event for more detail.

This helped identify a number of locations for wider community discussion through this survey.

Find out more

You can read more about the wider Energy in Your Community project and earlier engagement activity by visiting our project page: Energy in Your Community: Peasedown, Wellow and Shoscombe.

Read the Centre for Sustainable Energy’s FAQs which outline how community energy schemes work and common concerns about wind and solar developments.

How we'll use your feedback

We'll combine your feedback with comments gathered through previous workshops, events and community conversations.

Your comments will help inform whether any of the locations included in the survey should be explored further through technical assessment and future community discussion.

What comes next

This survey is an opportunity for the whole community to respond to the conversation so far, and to shape what we do next. We're especially keen to hear from people who didn't come to previous workshops, so we can include your views in the ongoing conversation.

At this stage, we're just finding out if the wider community feels that any of the possible locations are suitable for further exploration. Any location, even if it's strongly favoured, would still need to go through all of the stages below, before making any final decisions:

  • technical feasibility work
  • environmental and planning assessments
  • further community discussion
  • formal planning and consultation processes (which include the opportunity for public comment)

There are currently no planning applications or development proposals. This survey is separate from the Bath and North East Somerset Local Plan process and does not influence housing allocation decisions.

Take part in the survey

The survey is hosted independently by the Centre for Sustainable Energy. It should only take you around ten minutes to complete. It's open from Tuesday 26 May to 5pm on Wednesday 15 July 2026.
