It has been announced that the trustees have made the very difficult decision to heavily limit new causes the Foundation will support for the foreseeable future. They are not expecting to review this policy for at least 18 months which will allow for the Foundation to support its current commitments. This means that the Foundation is likely to remain closed to new applications until mid-2026.
Grants of variable sizes are available for registered charities in England and Wales.
The Hintze Family Charitable Foundation is a London-based grant-making charity. Its charitable objectives are:
- To advance education by supporting schools, colleges and universities.
- To support museums, libraries and art galleries and in particular provide access for the general public to works of artistic, scientific, historic, architectural and cultural importance.
- To support the Christian faith and its institutions.
- To relieve sickness and protect and preserve public health through projects to benefit the sick and terminally ill, and
- Any other charitable causes as the trustees see fit to support.
There is no set minimum or maximum level of grant award. They can range from around £5,000 to £120,000.
The Foundation has a tendency to make commitments and donations to charities that one or more Trustees have a particular interest in. For instance, Lord Hintze is a patron of both the British Heart Foundation and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. However, the Foundation also states that it invites applications from other registered charities.
Please note that the Foundation does not have a website, nor does it list grant recipients in its annual accounts. Further information is, however, available on the Charity Commission website.
The Foundation invites applications for grants from charities which further the objectives of the Foundation. Applications and potential donations identified by the Chief Executive and the Trustees are considered at Trustees’ meetings and between meetings.
Applications may be made at any time in writing. There is no specific format is required for applications.
