Al Tajir Trust

The Trust makes grants to UK community organisations with a focus on developing a programme of grants and partnerships with other institutions to advance science, education, religious understanding, and research in Britain or any of the Arab or other Islamic states.

The Al Tajir Trust is a UK charitable incorporated organisation (CIO).  Through its modest grants programme, it supports exhibitions, publications, educational activities and other programmes associated with Muslim/Christian relations, to Islamic culture and history and to communities in need in the Middle East.  The Trust’s current focus is on the advancement of science, education and research in Britain or any of the Arab and other Islamic states for needy young people and adults, in particular in literary, historical, medical and scientific subjects.

The object of the CIO is, for the public benefit:

  • The advancement of education in Britain or in any of the Arab states or Islamic states for communities in need, with a particular but not exclusive emphasis on subjects of relevance to the Arab states or Islamic states, and
  • The publication of books in English and Arabic furthering the understanding of the history and religions of those states.

There are no minimum or maximum grant award levels but only a small number of grants are awarded each year.

The Trust invites applications from existing and other potential partner institutions through direct contact and through the Trust's website (which has recently been redesigned).  Details of how to apply for a grant is set out on the website, from which an application form can be downloaded.

The Trustees meet every four months, usually in March, July and November, to review requests for grant aid.

Further information, guidance and an online application form, is available on the Trust’s website.
