The Charles Lewis Foundation

Grants of between £500 and £10,000 are available to UK registered charities working in the UK.

Previously known as the Lewis Trust, the Charles Lewis Foundation’s trustees have determined that its priority areas for grant support over the next few years will be:

  • Animal welfare
  • Elderly
  • Health
  • Local community
  • Young people

The Foundation particularly favours smaller charities located in the UK where funding is required for a specific project and where small grants can have a big impact.  It particularly supports registered charities in the UK which make good use of volunteers and have low running costs.  The Foundation likes to support ongoing and new projects.

The Foundation does not normally support applications from large national charities (ie those with an annual income in excess of £10 million or with £100+ million assets) or charities dedicated to issues deemed by the Trustees to be already well funded within the UK.

The Foundation will not normally consider requests for projects, activities or services for which the government has a statutory responsibility to provide for.

Please note that the Foundation does not have a website.  Further information is, however, available on the Charity Commission website.

Applications should be made in the first instance to the Charles Lewis Foundation by email.

Grants are considered by the Trustees at their meetings.  The Foundation aims to write to all applicants informing them of the outcome of their application for funding within three months of the date of the application.
