Hospice Care Home Training Programme

Grants of up to £2,000 are available to individual UK hospices or groups of UK hospices for courses and study days, focused specifically on dementia care for people approaching the end of life.

The Wolfson Foundation’s new (June 2023) £50,000 Hospice Care Home Training programme, which is being managed by Hospice UK on behalf of the Wolfson Foundation, consists of courses and study days focused specifically on dementia care for people approaching the end of life, run by a UK hospice or groups of UK hospices. Please note that funding is not available for in-house training.

Courses would be for local care home staff in order to raise the level of dementia care, knowledge and skills in the hospice’s own area of operation.

The programme’s aims are to:

•    Address unmet education and training needs cost effectively within hospices’ immediate region.
•    Encourage increased collaboration, sharing of knowledge and good practice across hospice and care home, and
•    Have a direct impact on patient care for those with a diagnosis of dementia who have palliative care needs.

Individual UK hospices, or several hospices working together, can apply for a grant of up to £2,000.  There is no matched funding requirement. Grants can be used to cover such costs as (please note that this is not an exclusive list):

•    Refreshments and/or catering.
•    Teaching.
•    Travel, and
•    Venue hire.

Applications may be submitted at any time but must be at least one month before the course start date.  The programme will close once the £50,000 budget has been committed.  Early application is therefore advised.

Further information, guidance and an online application form is available on the Hospice UK website.
