The Road Safety Trust support local public sector organisations, charities, Community Interest Companies and university groups to deliver evidence-based road safety projects that align with our priorities:
- Research that informs
- Pilots that test
- Dissemination that reaches
- Advocacy that influences
Projects might include: evidence reviews, research and evaluation; trials or roll-outs of education or practical interventions; engineering, infrastructure and technological measures; developing resources or guidance to improve policy and practice.
Generally, two rounds of funding are available each year. The Small Grants Programme responds to the sector’s need for smaller, local projects with a practical focus. Currently grant awards range from £20,000 to £50,000 in this programme.
The Large Grants Programme is suitable for research-based projects and the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative interventions. Currently grant awards in this programme are over £50,000 to £500,000.
On occasion the programmes have a ‘theme’ and applications for grants are required to focus on a particular road safety issue. Themes are identified via commissioned research and stakeholder consultation and are promoted well in advance of the round.
The RST want to help applicants achieve the most benefit from road safety initiatives by working collaboratively and are passionate about improving road safety at a local, regional and national level.
