The Gibbs Trust

The Gibbs Trust is a Bristol-based, family grant-making charity.  All 13 trustees are members of the Gibbs family which has its roots in supporting Methodist Church organisations - particularly in Bristol, South Wales and East Wales.

They regard the aims of the Trust as being to support three main areas of work, all of which confer public benefit:

  • innovative undertakings by Methodist churches and organisations
  • other Christian Causes
  • and a wider category in the fields of the creative arts, education, social and international concern

The Trust has previously awarded grant to charities operating in the following fields:

  • Arts, Culture, Heritage and Science
  • Education and Training
  • Overseas aid and Famine Relief
  • Religious Activities
  • The Advancement of Health and the Saving of Lives
  • The Prevention or the Relief of Poverty.

While there are no minimum or maximum grant award levels, grants tend to be small – usually under £3,000 for UK projects.  Grants for international causes tend to be larger.  The Trust has a tendency to support projects that trustees know, and that they can visit.

Further information, guidance and an online application form is available on the Trust’s website (registration is required before the application form can be accessed).

Applications may be made at any time and are carried forward if they miss a meeting.  The Trust meets every 4 months.

Trustees meet three times per year after Christmas, around Easter and late in the summer
