The Medlock Charitable Trust

Bath based, the Medlock Charitable Trust is a family-based grant-making charity that awards grants up to £50,000 to UK registered charities working to enhance communities, alleviate poverty and support the most vulnerable in society.  The vast majority of grants are for between £5,000 and £15,000.

Supported projects usually fall within the following areas:

  • Education and training.
  • Health and social care.
  • Housing.
  • Sports & recreation.
  • Arts & culture.
  • Environment & conservation.
  • Community services, and
  • Employment.

While the Trust has identified the City of Bath and the Borough of Boston, Lincolnshire, as the principal areas in which it is proactive, this is not exclusive.  These areas have been specifically chosen as the founder of the charity had strong connections with the City of Bath, the home of the charity, and had family connections of long standing with the Borough of Boston.  However, the Trust will consider all requests for grant support sympathetically.

When assessing grant applications, the Trust will expect charities to demonstrate the following points:

  • Why there is a need for their work, why it is not currently being met and how they plan to address it.
  • The impact their work will have in terms of numbers of people helped and degree of improvement to those people’s lives.
  • What plans are in place to measure the qualitative and quantitative impact of the work.
  • A forecast budget for the work to show short-term and long-term sustainability.
  • The most recent annual report and accounts of the charity, and
  • The number of volunteer days and pro bono services being given to the charity.

Further information, guidance and details about how to apply is available on the Trust’s website.  Trustees meet regularly to review applications.

Applications may be made at any time by application form.
