The William Adlington Cadbury Charitable Trust

Founded in 1923, the William Adlington Cadbury Charitable Trust, also known as the William A Cadbury Trust, places a focus on providing grants for the following activities in specific geographical areas:

  • Birmingham and the West Midlands – community action, vulnerable groups, advice, mediation and counselling, education and training, environment and conservation, medical and healthcare, and the arts
  • United Kingdom - groups with a clear Quaker connection, and restorative Justice, prison based projects and work with ex-offenders aimed at reducing re-offending
  • Ireland – peace and reconciliation; and
  • Africa - especially West Africa for work that reduces poverty on a sustainable basis in both rural and urban communities.  Schemes that help children access education are also supported.

The Trust has also funded projects in Asia, Eastern Europe and South America in the past, although these areas are oversubscribed and not currently open for applications.

Please note that the Trust only funds UK based organisations.

Applications are considered by trustees on a regular basis and small grants up to a maximum of £2,000 are awarded monthly.   Trustees meet every 6 months to award approximately 20 large grants of between £10,000 and £20,000 with an occasional maximum of £50,000.

Applications may be made at any time using the online application form on the Trust’s website.
