The Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (UFAW) is an independent registered charity that works with the animal welfare science community worldwide to develop and promote improvements in the welfare of animals through scientific and educational activity.
Among UFAW’s top priorities is the promotion and support of high quality science that will lead to substantial advances in animal welfare, and the promotion of education in animal welfare – particularly at university and college level.
They offer the following:
Research and Project Awards: Grants over £3,500 for research or other animal welfare projects (eg for educational initiatives or publications).
Small Project and Travel Awards: Grants up to up to £3,500 for the purchase of equipment, for the organisation of (and, sometimes, to support attendance at) educational meetings, lectures and courses, and for publication, translation or transmission of information on animal welfare and for other small projects.
Animal Welfare Student Scholarships: Grants to enable students to develop their interests in animal welfare science. Students are encouraged to carry out their own project (whether research or educational) with the aim of contributing to growing knowledge of how best to assess, or improve, the welfare of animals – be they farm animals, animals in zoos, pets, animals used in scientific research, or those with which we interact in the wild.
