Grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 are available to UK registered charities working in the UK and/or overseas for the advancement of higher and further education and the promotion of research.
The charitable objectives of the Trust are:
- The advancement of higher and further education whether in or in connection with universities, university colleges, colleges and other places of learning or otherwise, and
- The promotion of research and the dissemination of the results of such research.
The Trust gives one-off grants for:
- Academic research funding.
- Undergraduate and graduate bursaries.
- Exhibitions.
- Conservation/environmental research.
- Museum and library collections.
- Teacher training and resources in the developing world, and
- Early career development in the performing arts.
The Trust no longer considers applications for funding in consecutive years, neither is it able to provide grant support for individuals.
Grants are usually made of amounts between £1,000 and £5,000. The Trust favours discrete projects and is reluctant to contribute to appeals for large sums. As a small charity, the Trust does not normally contribute to major charitable bodies with large funds or to clinical trials.
The Trustees meet twice annually to consider and approve grants. The next deadline for applications is likely to be scheduled for the autumn of 2026.
An online application form is available on the Trust’s website.
