Tesco Fruit and Veg Grants

This is a public voting scheme using Tesco’s ‘blue token’ voting system in its stores, whereby every 4 months, 3 local projects that provide healthy and nutritious food and activities to boost young people’s mental and physical wellbeing are selected to be in the customer vote for a grant of up to £1,500 in Tesco stores across the UK.

Tesco’s Fruit and Veg Grant programme is a new public-voting grant scheme designed to support children and young people, with a particular focus on getting schools and children’s groups who lack funds and resources to apply for extra financial help they might need to provide healthy and nutritious food and activities that boost young people’s mental and physical wellbeing.

Applications that assist beneficiaries through projects that incorporate the provision of healthy food including fruit and veg, such as breakfast clubs, providing holiday club lunches or healthy snacks are encouraged.

The programme invites schools, registered charities and not-for-profit organisations supporting children to apply for up to £1,500 to improve access to fruit and veg.

Please note that it can take up to a year and a half for applicants to find out whether their nominated project has been selected to go forward to a public vote.

Every 4 months, 3 local projects are selected to be in the customer vote in Tesco stores throughout the UK.  Every project shortlisted for the vote receives funding but a vote using a blue token will make the difference to just how much funding each project receives – up to £500, £1,000 or £1,500.

Examples of the type of project that could be supported include:

  • After School Clubs and Breakfast Clubs to provide fruit and veg for pupils.
  • Healthy eating projects that support families to cook healthy meals on a budget.
  • Learn to grow projects that teach children how to grow and cook fruit and veg, and
  • Schemes that address hunger during holiday periods and out of school time for children.

Further information and details about how to apply can be found on the Tesco website.  Applications may be made at any time.

All applications that are received are assessed, and Tesco employees help to select the projects that will be voted for in regions across the UK.
