Small Grants of up to £2,500 are currently available to registered charities across the UK and Large Grants up to £75,000 are expected to be available later in 2026 for UK registered charities working in communities local to the Building Society’s branches. Grants are aimed at providing a safe and secure home for people in need.
The Leeds Building Society Charitable Foundation offers grants to UK registered charities for community-based projects that are working to provide safe and secure housing. Small Grants are normally awarded for capital items to charities across the United Kingdom. Applicants do not need to have an account with the Society to apply for a grant.
Since July 2022, the Foundation’s grants have focussed on supporting those in need of a safe and secure home. Project proposals must meet one or more of the following criteria themes:
- Financial stress
- Security and refuge
- Quality and suitability of housing, and/or
- Health and wellbeing support for those experiencing homelessness
The Foundation welcomes applications from those who take a Housing First and/or relationship-based approach. Applications should show evidence of:
- Strength-based practice
- Trauma-informed care, and
- Psychologically-informed environments
The following grants are available:
- Small Grants up to £2,500 for registered charities across the UK with an annual turnover of under £500,000, and
- Large Grants (expected to open soon) up to £75,000. Large grants can be for 1-year or divided over several years. However, applications for a Large Grant are only accepted from charities based in or delivering work in Yorkshire and/or the North East of England with an annual income of under £1 million.
Charities which have benefited include those working in the following areas:
- Support for the homeless
- Centres offering facilities for the local community with emphasis on the young and elderly
- Skills training for young people with special needs
- Provision of transport for the physically disabled
- Practical equipment for the terminally ill, and
- Recreational and educational opportunities for children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
The current round of the Small Grants programme has a deadline for applications of Wednesday 11 November 2026.
