The Robert Clutterbuck Charitable Trust

The Robert Clutterbuck Charitable Trust provides small grants, mostly for between £1,000 and £2,000, to registered charities in England and Wales with an annual turnover of under £1 million.

Projects in Cheshire and Hertfordshire tend to be preferred, although projects funded in other parts of England and Wales are also frequently supported.

The Trust is primarily concerned with the welfare of ex-service personnel and charities that have previously received a grant from the Trust, in particular:

Personnel within the Armed Forces and ex-service men and women.

Natural History and wildlife.

Sport and Recreational Facilities for young people, giving priority to Cheshire and Hertfordshire.

The Welfare, Protection and Preservation of Domestic Animal Life, giving priority to Cheshire and Hertfordshire.

Other charities associated with the counties of Cheshire and Hertfordshire, and

Charities which would have had particular appeal to the founder, Major Robert Clutterbuck (Major Robert Clutterbuck established the charity in 1992 and funded it with £1 million from his own resources.  For nearly 20 years he was chairperson and took a keen interest in the Trust's activities).

The Trust’s second and final deadline for 2025 is on Wednesday 31 December.  The next application deadline is likely to be on Tuesday 30 June 2026.

Further information, guidance and details about how to apply can be found on the Trust’s website.  Please note that there is no application form and charities wishing to apply should write to the Secretary giving details of what they propose to do with any grant made and of their current financial position.  (Accounts are not needed if the most recent ones are available on the Charity Commission website.)
