The James Tudor Foundation’s Physical Healthcare Grant programme has replaced its Medical Research programme. Grants of up to £25,000 are available for UK health charities that provide therapeutic interventions, health information, and direct healthcare.
The Physical Healthcare Grant programme covers:
Therapeutic interventions for:
- People living with acute, chronic, or degenerative physical conditions
- People living with physical disabilities
- People recovering from life-changing injuries
- Charities providing evidence-based, NICE recommended therapies (eg physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, multidisciplinary rehabilitation programmes etc).
The Foundation will prioritise charities that provide these services free of charge or at highly subsidised prices.
Specialist, single-condition charities
Typically, these are national charities that provide information about a specific condition via nurse-led helplines and via digital and print materials.
In this category, the Foundation will prioritise charities that are members of the Patient Information Forum (PIF) and/or hold PIF Tick certification. Similarly, charities operating helplines are given preference if they are members of the Helplines Partnership or hold the Helplines Standard certification.
Charities that provide direct healthcare services to marginalised communities
Air Ambulance charities operating in South-West England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
In particular, the Foundation is interested in funding:
- Charities that address unmet needs, demonstrate sector expertise, and have a clear, well-defined strategy. The Foundation looks for organisations with the skills and capacity to support their beneficiaries effectively, and that can clearly evidence the impact of their work on the communities they serve, and
- Organisations whose services are delivered by qualified specialist professionals.
Grants of up to £25,000 with no matched funding requirement are available, normally for a 12-month period, although this can be extended to over a 3-year period in some instances.
There are a lot of exclusions, so please do check the guidance.
To apply, eligible organisations should:
- Check their eligibility using the Eligibility Checker.
- If you are eligible, submit a brief Expression of Interest via the Foundation’s online application platform (applicants will be directed to the form once they have successfully completed the Eligibility Checker).
- If a request matches the Foundation’s funding priorities, and the Foundation assesses that an applicant has at least a 75% chance of being awarded a grant, it will invite applicants to submit a Full Application.
The deadline for submitting an Expression of Interest is Friday 8 May 2026. Applicants that successfully pass the Expression of Interest stage will be sent a full application in mid-June 2026 for submission by Friday 31 July 2026 at 5pm. Successful applicants will be notified during the week commencing Monday 7 September 2026.
