Grants usually between £1,000 and £2,000 are available to UK registered charities working in the areas of children’s causes, disability and social work, hospices and general charitable causes.
The Bothwell Charitable Trust is a family-based grant-baking charity with its registered office in Newbury, Berkshire. It is primarily known as a funder of children’s causes but the Trust's main area of charitable investment is usually in the area of medical research.
The Trust’s objectives are “to benefit or further such charitable purposes, charitable institutions or charitable foundations in the United Kingdom or elsewhere in such manner and in such proportions as the Trustees may from time to time in their absolute discretion determine”.
Grants tend to be for between £1,000 and £2,000 with the occasional higher award. Grants rarely exceed £5,000. There is no matched funding requirement.
The year ended 5th April 2024 was a comparatively quiet year for the Trust in terms of its grant-making. Its total investment in charitable activities was just £40,000, compared with £357,000 the previous year (the Trust's annual grant expenditure is often around £350,000).
The Trust’s funding history suggests that it has a preference for supporting charities in the South East of England, although it will fund across the UK.
