Capital grants of up to £5,000 are available for projects that help homeless people rebuild their lives and move towards a return to mainstream society.
Help the Homeless has changed its quarterly grant applications deadline. For many years, this has been on the 15 of March, June, September and December. In 2026, the deadlines have moved to 5pm on the 20 of March, June, September and December.
Help the Homeless provides financial support for hostels, drop-in centres and similar services that are working to help homeless people rebuild their lives and return to society through training or residential facility provision. Please note that grants are for capital projects only and are not awarded for projects that merely offer shelter - projects must help individuals move towards a return to mainstream society.
UK registered charities with an annual turnover of less than £500,000 (this was previously £1 million) may apply for a capital grant of up to £5,000. There is no matched funding requirement.
Help the Homeless normally awards between 15 and 20 grants totalling around £50,000 each year. Several examples of recent grant awards are available on the Charity's website.
Applicants requiring funding for building work and refurbishment are advised to contact CRASH, a charity helping homelessness charities and hospices with vital construction projects.
Further information, guidance and a grant application form is available on the Help the Homeless website.
The Charity meets 4 times each year to consider applications. The next application deadline is at 5pm on Saturday 20 June 2026. Further deadlines are scheduled for:
- 20 September 2026 at 5pm, and
- 20 December at 5pm.
Decisions are normally relayed to applicants within 6 weeks of each application deadline.
