The Scottish Power Foundation provides general grants for project funding (but not running costs) of between £35,000 and £150,000 to UK registered charities providing projects in the following fields:

Art and Culture

  • Restoration, development and conservation: protecting and safeguarding artistic and cultural heritage.
  • Cultural initiatives: celebrating diversity and cultural identity through the arts.

Biodiversity and Climate Change:

  • Environmental protection or improvement: protecting and enhancing the environment.
  • Habitat conservation: contributing to the protection and conservation of habitats and enhancing biodiversity.
  • Knowledge and research: developing new solutions to the challenge of climate change.

Education, Training and Research:

  • STEM: inspiring young people to pursue qualifications and a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in order to contribute to energy sustainability.
  • Raising aspirations: addressing society’s educational needs by inspiring and challenging the next generation through innovation.

Social initiatives:

  • Economic security: alleviating poverty, including in-work poverty, caused by the cost-of-living crisis.
  • Economic opportunity: supporting entrepreneurship and skills development for the most vulnerable groups.

Ideally, projects should also demonstrate how they address one or more of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The Foundation is particularly interested in receiving applications from UK charities that are supporting people who are most marginalised and disadvantaged in the United Kingdom.

While grants of between £35,000 and £150,000 (previously up to £200,000) are available, the average award tends to be around £50,000.  Grants are awarded for a 12-month period.  Projects should start between Wednesday 31 March 2027 and Friday 31 December 2027 and be completed within 12 months. The Foundation will only approve funding for a one-year period.

Since 2013, the Foundation has awarded over £15 million to charitable initiatives across the United Kingdom, consisting of over 250 grants for a wide range of projects.

Applications for the 2027 funding round opened at the start of July 2026 with a deadline of midday (12 noon) on Friday 24 July 2026 or as soon as 350 applications have been received, whichever is the sooner.  Early application is therefore advised.

To apply, organisations should initially complete the online eligibility form on the Foundation's website, following which, if eligible, which they will be provided with a link to the application form.

Further information and guidance is available on the Foundation’s website.
