A limited number of grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 are available to members of Hospice UK working in partnership with
- grassroots community organisations and
- individuals in the creative sector
to deliver arts and cultural projects that have the ability to unlock conversations about dying, death and grief in new and creative ways.
Hospice UK's Dying Matters Community Grants Programme, which was last available in the autumn of 2023, is designed to fund creative community projects that start conversations about death, grief and bereavement. In particular, the programme will support new and creative ways to spark those important conversations in communities across the UK. The grant programme focusses on working with people who are least likely to have already had access to existing models of support.
Up to 8 grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 are available to Hospice UK members for a range of arts and cultural projects that have the ability to act as a catalyst for unlocking conversations about dying, death and grief in new and creative ways at a grassroots level. The aim of the programme is to support hospices to build new partnerships, particularly with arts and cultural organisations. Only one application can be made by each UK Hospice member.
Projects should be partnerships with community organisations, artists, writers, filmmakers etc), galleries, collectives, local charities, local councils, colleagues/departments, hospitals or other organisations, in order that they complement existing provision and are truly integrated in systemic plans to reach more people.
Projects could involve (please note that this is not an exclusive list):
- Comedy evenings
- Community murals
- Public art exhibitions
- Theatre productions
The lead organisation must be a member of Hospice UK working in partnership with grassroots community organisations and/or creatives with the aim of reaching people in the following groups:
- Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic community.
- Those who are homeless.
- LGBTQ+
- People in prison.
- People living in remote and rural areas.
- People living in poverty, deprivation and with lower socioeconomic status, and/or
- People living with learning disabilities.
Events are expected to be held outside of the hospice setting unless there is a good reason.
