The Beatrice Laing Trust

Capital grants, typically for between £2,000 and £10,000, are available to UK registered charities working in the UK or overseas that are working to advance the Christian faith and relieve poverty in its broadest sense.

The Beatrice Laing Trust is one of several grant-making Trusts established by the Laing family.  These include the Kirby Laing Foundation, the Martin Laing Foundation and the Maurice and Hilda Laing Charitable Trust.

The Laing Family Trusts are run on a co-ordinated basis.  This means that applicants do not need to make multiple applications to the individual Trusts.  Each application will automatically be directed to the most appropriate of the family's four Trusts.

The Beatrice Laing Trust is a grant-making Trust offering financial support to a wide range of UK registered charities working to advance the Christian faith and relieve poverty in its broadest sense, both throughout the UK, in developing countries and overseas.  Capital or project funding is favoured over revenue funding.

The Trustees' priority areas of giving are:

To support new church building, extension or redevelopment projects, with a particular emphasis on churches using their physical resources to communicate Christian faith and respond to needs in their local community.

To support organisations offering practical services to those who are disadvantaged and vulnerable, with a particular emphasis on Christian organisations seeking to express their faith through practical action to help:

  • the homeless
  • the elderly
  • ex-offenders, and
  • former Servicemen and women.

To support organisations providing practical services to people with physical, mental and learning difficulties, predominately through:

  • special schools seeking to make provision for those with increasingly complex needs; and
  • support in the transition from childhood to adulthood and in accessing training and/or meaningful employment opportunities.

To support small-scale overseas development projects, aimed at building the capacity of local partners to provide long-term solutions to problems in the developing world, principally through Christian organisations working in the Anglophone countries of Sub-Saharan Africa and parts of Asia to:

  • improve educational opportunities, and
  • build sustainable livelihoods

Grants are typically for between £2,000 and £10,000, although the trustees have the capacity to make several larger grants each year.

The Trust does not have a pro-forma application form, but instead requests applicants to download and complete an application cover sheet, which is available on completion of its Eligibility Quiz.  Further information about how to apply is available on the Laing Family Trusts website.  There is a number of exclusions for this fund so do look at these before applying.

Applications may be made at any time.
