The Armed Forces Early Years Programme

Grants between £5,000 and £80,000 for projects lasting up to two years, which help enhance early childhood education and childcare settings to meet specific needs of young children from armed forces families.

Your application should clearly show why service children from currently serving forces families will benefit from your proposal, and why this offers good value for money.

They invite applications from:

  • Early childhood education and childcare providers operating where armed forces families live or work and with service children aged 0-5 attending their setting.
  • Local authorities who wish to supply specific training to early childhood education and childcare providers supporting service children aged 0-5 years and provide a shared resource working across multiple settings.

Your project must meet one of the following 4 themes:

  • Closing the gap:  Closing the academic gap between service and non-service pupils using data led evidence.
  • Support for service pupils with SEN/D, ASN, ALN:  Address the needs of service pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEND), Additional Support Needs (ASN) or Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
  • Mobility/deployment and separation:  Address the impact of mobility/deployment and separation on service pupil’s education.
  • Low numbers of service pupils:  Finding ways to reach and maintain support to service pupils who are in schools that have very low overall numbers of service pupils.

They advise reading the guidance notes carefully before applying and that the fund is likely to be oversubscribed.
