Bright Green Homes: a guide for landlords

Bright Green Homes: a guide for landlords

You could get funding to improve the energy efficiency of your rental properties, helping to make homes warmer, cheaper to heat and more energy efficient for your tenants.

Bright Green Homes offers funding for energyefficiency improvements in eligible, occupied rental properties. If your properties qualify, you could get full funding for your first property, and 50% funding for any additional properties.

The scheme is delivered across Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol and North Somerset in partnership with Bristol City Leap and local councils.

Who can apply

You may be able to apply for Bright Green Homes funding if all of the following apply:

  • you are a private landlord
  • your property is located in Bath & North East Somerset
  • the property is occupied and furnished
  • the property has poor or moderate energy performance (EPC rating D, E, F or G)
  • the household income of the tenant or tenants is £36,000 or less per year

If the household income of the tenant or tenants is more than that, the property might still be eligible if either:

  • someone in the household is getting certain benefits – such as Universal Credit or Pension Credit
  • the property is in one of the target postcodes for the scheme

You can check this by entering the property postcode in the box below.

Check if your postcode is in a target area

Your postcode is in a target area. This means you may be eligible for the scheme even if the household income of your tenants is above the threshold. You will still need to meet all other requirements listed above

You cannot apply if the property is social housing or temporary accommodation.

Funding is limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.

What the scheme offers

  • a free energy efficiency assessment of eligible properties
  • expert advice on the most suitable improvements for each property
  • funding to support upgrades such as insulation or lowcarbon technologies

Improvements are recommended following a professional retrofit assessment. Neither landlords nor tenants choose the measures directly.

How to apply

You’ll apply through Bristol City Leap, who manage the Bright Green Homes scheme and funding.

You’ll be asked to complete an online questionnaire to check eligibility. If your property qualifies, the Bright Green Homes team will contact you to confirm details and arrange a home assessment.

Before you apply

It helps to have the following information ready:

  • the household income details of the tenant or tenants
  • your property’s EPC rating (if you have one)
  • details of the heating system
  • basic tenancy details (for example, monthly rent amount)
