Apply to undertake works on the highway

If you are planning to undertake works on the highway with traffic management that does not include traffic signals, you will need to apply for a Road Space Booking using the form listed below.

Before you start

Before you complete the application, please have the following items and information ready:

• Location street name and unique street reference number (USRN)
• Location description
• Work description
• Easting and Northing of the proposed work
• Details of traffic management to be used
• Details of public liability insurance cover to a minimum value of £5,000,000 per incident. 

Warning If you are not familiar with the requirements of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991, we strongly advise that you appoint a contractor with the appropriate knowledge and proof of relevant training and accreditation to help complete the application and conduct the works on your behalf.

Types of traffic management

Traffic management types can include the following:

• None/signing only
• Traffic control (stop and go boards)
• Traffic control (give and take)
• Traffic control (priority working)
• Traffic control (convoy working)
• Lane closure
• Contra-flow
• Road closure (TTRO required)
• Temporary traffic signal controlled crossing

You must apply for temporary signals separately.

Fees

The administration fee is £35.

We will send you a B&NES payment portal link via email once we have approved your application.

What happens next

Please email your form to street_works@bathnes.gov.uk, with the subject – Road Space Booking.

Please provide at least 10 days notice before your works start. If you fail to issue this notice to us, this could delay the works.
