Tree Survey/arboricultural Statement Thresholds:
Full Planning Application
- A full survey of all trees on site and within influencing distance of the proposal (with a stem diameter greater than 75 mm when measured at 1.5 m above ground level) in accordance with BS5837: 2012 Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction - Recommendations.
- An Arboricultural Impact Assessment and Tree Protection Plan showing trees to be retained and removed, and setting out appropriate physical protection for retained trees during construction works.
- Any pre-development tree surgery works.
- An Arboricultural Method Statement where works are needed within the Root Protection Areas (see BS5837: 2012) of retained trees or where retained trees cannot be protected by standard physical means such as fencing and/or ground protection.
- Proposed location of underground services including soakaways where appropriate.
- Compensatory planting for any removed trees
The tree survey, Arboricultural Impact Assessment and Method Statement should be prepared by a suitably qualified arboriculturist.
Householder Application
- Scaled plan accurately positioning the trunks of trees that could influence or be affected by the development (including works such as site access, service routes and site compounds), identified with a reference number (e.g., T1, T2), their stem diameter when measured at 1.5 metres above ground, and whether they are to be removed or retained.
- Any pre-development tree surgery works.
- Compensatory planting for any removed trees.
If any of the trees are covered by a Tree Preservation Order or are within a conservation area, then the level of requirements for a Full Planning Application will apply.
This information should be prepared by a suitably qualified arboricultralist and must include a full Tree Survey, an Arboricultural Impact Assessment (AIA), Proposed Pre-development Tree Work and a Tree Protection Plan all in accordance with British Standard 5837:2012 ‘ Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction – Recommendations and where deemed necessary and appropriate to submit a Arboricultural Method Statement (AMS) also in accordance with British Standard 5837:2012 ‘ Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction – Recommendations.
If any of the above trees are covered by a Tree Preservation Order or it is considered necessary by the Councils Arboricultural Officer then the tree or trees must be surveyed in accordance with British Standard 5837:2012 ‘ Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction – Recommendations by a suitably qualified arboriculturalist and full details submitted as recommended in British Standard 5837:2012 ‘ Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction – Recommendations.
