The Bath and North East Somerset Community Safety Partnership has a statutory duty to carry out Domestic Abuse related death reviews (DARDRs) when the death meets the criteria under Section 9 of the Domestic Violence Crime and Victims Act (2004).

The Bath and North East Somerset Council Community Safety Partnership is responsible for undertaking Domestic Abuse related death reviews (DARDRs) where the death of a person aged 16 or over has, or appears to have resulted from violence, abuse or neglect by a relative, household member or someone s/he had been in an intimate relationship with.

The purpose of a domestic abuse related death review is to consider the circumstances that led to the death and identify where responses to the situation could be improved or prevented in the future. In doing this, professionals and agencies involved, such as the police, local authorities, social services, health agencies/professionals, voluntary sector will progress any recommendations made by the review.

A multi-agency review panel is established for each review, and comprises members of local statutory and voluntary agencies, and is led by an independent chair.

A domestic abuse related death review is not an inquiry into how someone died or who is to blame for their death and is not part of any disciplinary process. They do not replace, but will be in addition to, an inquest or any other form of inquiry into the death.

The aim of domestic abuse related death reviews is for agencies to improve their response to domestic abuse and work better together to prevent such tragedies occurring in future. They recommend actions to improve responses to domestic violence situations.

The Bath and North East Somerset Council Responsible Authority Group will publish the reports of any local domestic abuse related death reviews onto this page. The aim in publishing these reviews is to restore public confidence and improve transparency of the processes in place, across all agencies, to protect victims.

More information on domestic abuse related death reviews and Statutory Guidance published by the Home Office for the conduct of these reviews can be found here.
