The Foundation provides grants to charities and some not-for-profit organisations of between £1,000 and £5000 in a range of categories.
Innovative projects that are less than 5 years old are favoured. Applicants must demonstrate that their project is of a capital nature to ensure the Foundation delivers lasting public benefit. The Foundation will normally expect applicants to have sought and secured matched funding for their project proposal.
The funding categories are:
- Promotion and education of organic farming and non-domestic animal husbandry and veterinary science:
- A grant is awarded for capital costs only.
- The applicant’s annual income is less than £1,000,000.
Visual and Performing Arts
The Foundation supports visual arts projects, theatres and theatre productions, and dance, ballet and opera in the following ways:
- A visual arts project must involve the organisation’s beneficiaries and a grant is awarded for capital costs only.
- Theatres may request a grant for capital projects (which includes the costs of building works, and materials and equipment for workshops).
- Grants of £1,000 are given for the running costs of new theatre productions. Applications should focus on the subject matter of the play.
- The applicant’s income is less than £500,000
- Dance, ballet and opera applicants may apply for bursary funding only
- Music is not supported as a performing art
Medical Research
- A grant will be awarded for running (revenue) costs and capital costs
- Research must not be statistical and should be lab-based
- There are no income thresholds
Relief of disability and severe illness
- A grant is awarded for capital costs only
- Except in the case of a hospice, income must be less than £500,000
The preservation of buildings of architectural or historical significance
- A grant is awarded for capital costs only
- The building is owned or leased (for a term of 10 years or more) to the applicant
- The project cost is less than £5 million
- The applicant’s income is less than £3 million
- The building is not used for religious or academic purposes
The accommodation of those in need
- A grant will be awarded for capital costs only
- The applicant’s income is less than £3 million
