Small grants under £5,000 are available for registered charities for a wide range of charitable projects and organisations in the UK.
The Trust considers itself to be a broad, generalist and predominantly reactive grant maker, with a policy of selecting the best projects from applications received in order to achieve the maximum possible beneficial social impact.
In particular, the Trust’s grant-making seeks to alleviate need and distress, and help people lead more fulfilling lives. To ensure a good level of social impact, the Trust prefers to fund organisations which experience real difficulty in obtaining funding from elsewhere and which demonstrate evidence of effective work meeting a compelling need. For this reason, many of the grants are aimed at funding smaller organisations and those without public appeal.
Grants are generally awarded under the following headings:
- Gifts for the benefit of a particular locality
- The advancement of citizenship or community development
- The advancement of education
- The advancement of health or saving of lives
- The advancement of human rights, equality and diversity
- The advancement of religion
- The advancement of the arts, culture, heritage or science
- The prevention or relief of poverty
- The protection of the environment
- The relief of those in need by reason of youth, disability or other disadvantage
- The support of the armed forces of the Crown
The Trust does not have a website, nor does it provide a list of grant recipients in its annual accounts. Further information is, however, available on the Charity Commission website. Applications may be made at any time in writing
