The Country Land and Business Association (CLA) Charitable Trust
Grants , usually for up to £5,000, are available to registered charities, social enterprises (including Community Interest Companies) and voluntary organisations based and working in England and Wales to provide
- facilities for people with a disability so that they can participate in country sports and recreation, and training in agriculture and horticulture
- education in and of the countryside for disadvantaged children and young people.
Following a period during which it had paused its grant-making, the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) Charitable Trust recommenced accepting Expressions of Interest for grant support.
However, due to a high number of applications and changes to its application process, it has again paused applications with a view to reopening in the summer of 2026. It also plans to review its grant-making processes before reopening in the summer of 2026. Please check the Trust’s website for updates. When the Fund reopens, early application is advised.
The Trust provides one-off grants for specific projects or equipment. The Trust focuses its grant support on smaller charities where its grant can make a major contribution to a project’s success. Applications for projects and activities that benefit children and young people who are financially, physically and/or mentally disadvantaged, or are living in an area of deprivation are particularly welcomed.
The overarching objectives of the Trust are:
- To promote education about the countryside for young people from towns and cities and those who are disadvantaged.
- To provide facilities for those who are disabled, who have learning difficulties or who are in some way disadvantaged to enjoy the benefits of the countryside, and
- To support the advancement of education in agriculture, horticulture and conservation for disadvantaged people, particularly the young.
Multi-year grants are occasionally awarded. There is no stated matched funding requirement. However, applicants should not have received a grant from the Trust over the previous 3 years and will be expected to have a current safeguarding policy.
Grants can be used to cover running costs, projects costs and capital works.
Further information and guidance is available on the Trust’s website.
