The AD Charitable Trust

A limited number of grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 are available to UK registered charities that are developing the skills and potential of people in disadvantaged communities.

London-based grant-making charity, the AD Charitable Trust funds projects in the United Kingdom that support disadvantaged people, helping them both practically and in building esteem, so they can reach their full potential.

The Trust primarily aims to support charities and programmes that specifically deal with the problems that arise from “transitional issues” within disadvantaged communities in the UK.  It typically works with smaller programmes or charities, where greater levels of operational support might be required.  The Trust places an emphasis on self-help, building esteem and enabling people to reach their potential.  The Trustees also actively review shortlisted applicants through site visits to discuss the work of the applicant and, post-funding, will monitor the application of funds where appropriate and particularly if repeat funding is under consideration.

Please note that there is a long list of exclusions so do check the guidance carefully before applying.

They have a focus (but not exclusively) on communities of adults and young adults who might be socially excluded because of :

  • Physical disabilities
  • Emotional and mental ill health
  • Long Term Illness

To apply, an email or letter of application is all that is necessary at first, providing:

  • An outline of the project
  • How the applicant intends to evaluate the project, and
  • A detailed costing and the organisation’s existing sources of finance.

The letter should also include information on other applications (including those to statutory sources and the Lottery) that have been made.  Applicants should also say if they have applied to or received a grant previously from The AD Charitable Trust.  Applicants should include annual accounts, but not videos, tapes or bulky reports as they will not be returned.

The trustees may want to visit the project before agreeing to fund an application.  This may mean a delay, as it is only possible to visit a small part of the country between each trustees’ meeting.  Three months is the minimum it can take to award a grant.

Applications can be made at any time, however funding decisions are made in December each year and that is when grants are paid out.

Further information is available on the Trust's website.
