Bath and North East Somerset Drone Permission Application

The flying of any drone or model aircraft in the UK is covered by Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Regulations. These regulations were comprehensively updated December 2020.

I want to take off/land a drone from a Council managed highway, park or open space in Bath and North East Somerset, do I need permission from the Council?

Yes, if any of the following apply:

  • Your drone weighs over 250g
  • You need to section off a pavement/road/area of a park for take-off and landing to comply with the CAA requirements to stay away from uninvolved persons
  • The drone falls under the 'Specific' or 'Certified' category

If you want a permit for a drone flight related to the filming industry, please apply via the Bath Film Office online permit system. You will need to provide evidence of your public liability insurance, risk assessment, any CAA documentation and flight plan. All applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

There will be a minimum of 5 working days to assess the application, however we will try to facilitate any shorter notice requests.
