Voices 1914-1918

On Wednesday 31 October the final 'Voices' event of the World War One Centenary, Voices 1918: Remembrance Day, took place at the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI) on Queen Square in Bath.

This was an evening of readings of poems, letters, diary entries and articles from the War years and the years immediately after the conflict, presented with images and songs.  The performers were from Bath Poetry Cafe and Walcot State Choir.

The annual commemorative events have been very popular. Poetry 1914, Poetry 1915: The Darkness and The Thunder and The RainVoices 1916: Requiem For The World  and Voices 1917: Returning We Hear The Larks featured readings of poems, letters, diary entries and newspaper articles from 100 years ago compiled and performed by members and friends of Bath Poetry Cafe.  The readings were interspersed with songs presented by singers from Walcot State Choir and illustrated with a slideshow of images.

A particular focus for the 2017 commemoration was the Battle of Passchendaele, 1917.  This year's readings will reflect on the impact of the War.

The evenings were free to all with donations invited to support The Royal British Legion.
