For a period of six years, between 30 May 2013 and 30 May 2019, householders will be able to build larger single-storey rear extensions under permitted development. The size limits will double from 4 metres to 8 metres for detached houses, and from 3 metres to 6 metres for all other houses. These new rules do not apply within Conservation Areas, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, World Heritage Sites (City of Bath) or Sites of Special Scientific Interest, where the existing restrictions continue to operate. Please note before submitting a prior notification form, please check that your property is not within one of the above areas. Note: Applications approved after 6th April 2015 may be subject to a Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).
