The Council is reviewing its planning policy framework to ensure it is up-to-date and responds to the key issues that the District is facing.  Three detailed transport studies have been undertaken to identify strategic infrastructure required to support growth in the West of England.  These studies have been developed following the Joint Transport Study.

This work is crucial in developing a new Local Plan, clearly setting out and evidencing how we will provide the strategic transport infrastructure to support growth in our area.  The work undertaken forms part of a district-wide consultation in conjunction with the Local Plan 2016-2036 Options Consultation.

The transportation studies have been summarised in a series of presentation boards which will be available at the Local Plan consultation events during November 2018. 

Detailed information for each of the three transportation studies is available below:

2. A4 Bristol to East Keynsham Corridor Study - Option Assessment Report
3. South East Bristol and Whitchurch Package – Option Assessment Report

Key issues considered include:

• identification of key transport challenges and transport objectives in the areas of interest;
• identification and shortlisting of potential transport options to address the challenges and objectives;
• concept design and initial costing of shortlisted options;
• desk-based assessment of environmental, social and economic impacts, and value for money of the options; and
• initial assessment of financial and delivery case of the options.

Next steps

The Council welcomes comments on these proposals. A consultation page for feedback is available until 7 January 2019 (please read the details of proposals on this page before making your comments).

The results of the consultation will be used to inform the preferred route options that will be safeguarded in the draft Local Plan, due to be published in 2019.
