The Localism Act sets out a number of new “Community Rights”. In summary, these are
-
“The Community Right to Bid/Buy”/Assets of Community Value- designed to give communities time to raise funding to buy a local facility.
-
The Community Right to Build- a way for communities to build a new local asset and facility.
-
The Community 'Right To Challenge'- allows for local community groups to “challenge” Council services and potentially trigger procurement for that service.
The Strategy and Performance team at the Council has produced a Quick Guide to the Localism Act's community rights and how they might help local communities achieve their aims.
The government has produced a quick and simple guide to all community rights entitled You've Got The Power
