The West of England Rural Network (WERN) Village Agents have been delivering services in Bath and North East Somerset for 12 years. They provide advice and support services for independent living to residents in rural parts of the area including Chew Valley; Somer Valley, Bathavon North and South, Combe Down and Foxhill.
The ten village agents offer a free and confidential service and one to one support. Examples include making sure you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to, help with accessing pre-cooked frozen meals, providing information and support on a range of issues and signposting to professionals as appropriate.
They also work with GP surgeries, the Community Wellbeing Hub, parish councils and existing local organisations to identify people who would benefit from help. As well as offering one-to-one support and home visits, they run regular surgeries and drop-in sessions in community buildings where people can get access to information and advice or be signposted to further resources and key services including health, transport and finance.
The Village Agents also run regular Rural Moves activity sessions to encourage people to move more and sit less.
Anyone over the age of 18 living in the areas listed above can access the service. You may self-refer or, with their permission, help a family member or friend to make a referral. Professional referrals are also welcome. Simply call 01275 333700.
