Social housing tenants can move to another social housing tenancy in two ways:

  • Transferring a tenancy in Bath and North East Somerset
  • Swapping a tenancy with someone in another part of England or Wales

Transferring a tenancy in Bath and North East Somerset

We will prioritise applicants who need to move for urgent reasons, or those who need a bigger or smaller home.

Swapping a tenancy elsewhere

If you want to move to another area, you will need to use the GOV.uk online portal.

You need your landlord's permission, and you won't usually be allowed to move if you still owe any rent.

This service is only available in England and Wales. You cannot transfer a tenancy in Scotland or Northern Ireland.
