Hypnotism Authorisation


If you wish to show, demonstrate or perform a hypnotism act in public, you must have authorisation from the local authority.

You must comply with any conditions attached to an authorisation.


  • £65 - Application fee to be charged at time of application
  • £33 - Maintenance fee to be charged prior to issue

Payment can be made by debit or credit card.


Unless specified otherwise, all authorisations will be for the duration of the performance or demonstration.

Eligibility Criteria 

There are no specific eligibility requirements for hypnotism authorisations.


Applications must be in writing (including by electronic means) and must include:

  • the applicant's name and address;
  • details of previous performances;
  • details of proposed future performance.

There is no consultation process, but we will inform the police of your application and they may wish to contact you should they have any concerns.


There is no statutory period for determining applications; however, we aim to determine applications within 60 days.


The local authority may attach conditions to the authorisation.

Tacit Consent 

Tacit consent applies.  This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from the local authority by the end of the 60 day target completion period.
