Our recycling collections are cheaper than throwing waste away, so the more you recycle the more money you could save. Everything that we collect for recycling is made into useful new products, helping to save energy and resources.
These are the materials we now collect for recycling:
- glass bottles and jars
- food/drink cans mixed with plastic bottles, tubs, pots and trays.
- food waste - all cooked or uncooked, fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and bones - Excluding large quantities of cooking oil or other liquids; this must be disposed of separately.
You can choose between bags and/or bins. We can also collect your cardboard in bundles using our stickers instead of a container.

We are increasingly using mechanical biological treatment (MBT) and energy from waste (EFW) technologies to compost, recycle and recover the energy from your waste (so making the most of waste you haven’t been able to separate for recycling). Residual/general waste excludes large bulky items and hazardous waste. Please see container sizes above.
Here's the price list for 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020
The prices quoted in our price list 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020 are based 'per collection'. Collections are weekly, but more frequent collections can be arranged for an additional charge.
There are no additional charges for required documentation or monthly administration charges. Our charges are outside the scope of VAT as we are a local authority providing the service. This means VAT is not charged on invoices to businesses within our boundary. (VAT applies to brokers and other waste collection companies).
Our flexible payment methods, based on 12 month agreements, include Direct Debits over 10 months, 6 monthly invoicing in advance, BACS transfer, Internet and secure 24 hr automated payment line, cheque, cash. You can also make epayments with credit or debit cards as you place orders for sacks and stickers and any additional ad hoc collections that you may need.
Business waste can also be taken for disposal to our Waste Transfer Station at Midland Road, Bath, BA1 3AT (next to our Recycling Centre). To use this site you must wear steel toe-capped boots and a hi-viz jacket.
If you transport your own business waste, you must register as a waste carrier. We can offer a substantial reduction in the gate fee for customers who sort their waste for recycling before delivering it to us.
Our charges are outside the scope of VAT as we are a local authority providing the service.
Sorted recycling 2019-20
Reduced fee (including timber and wood) £82.53 per tonne, with a minimum charge of £41.27 (0.5 tonnes)
Reduced fee (NO timber and wood) £63.02 per tonne, with a minimum charge of £31.51 (0.5 tonnes)
To take advantage of this significant saving, each load must only contain recyclable material from the following list;
- Timber and wood
- Rubble and soil
You can bring a mixture of these materials in the same vehicle but they must be separated and must not include any non-recyclable materials. If you include any non-recyclables you will be charged the gate fee for unsorted waste.
Unsorted waste 2019-20
This will NOT be recycled. £150.83 per tonne. Minimum charge £75.41 (equivalent to 0.5 tonnes).
Items we cannot accept at the Transfer Station
Hazardous wastes - we are not licenced to collect or receive any hazardous waste from businesses at our Transfer Station for disposal. We can only accept fridges, freezers and TVs from a business at the Transfer Station if you can prove they have been collected from a private domestic household.

Payment choices at our Transfer Station
Please note that payments can be made by cash, credit or debit card. We can offer a monthly account for regular customers. To find out about this option please contact Council Connect 01225 39 40 41.
The Transfer Station will only be open in the mornings between 8am – 12.30pm Monday - Friday
Last vehicle admitted 15 minutes before closing time.
If you need to weigh your vehicle you can use our public weighbridge at Bath Transfer Station. These are the charges from 1 April 2019 which are subject to VAT at the current rate.
