Visitors to the Roman Baths will be able to soak up the special atmosphere of the Great Bath illuminated by torchlight this summer as opening hours are extended.
The Roman Baths will stay open until 10pm (last admission 9pm) during Torchlit Summer Evenings, which run from Friday 21 June to Saturday 31 August 2019.
The historic site takes on a magical atmosphere as the daylight fades and the flaming torches are lit. Visitors can walk around the Great Bath where people bathed nearly 2,000 years ago, see the ruins of the Temple of Sulis Minerva where Roman worshippers gathered, and explore the fascinating Roman Baths museum.
Councillor Paul Crossley, cabinet member for Community (Leisure, Tourism & Culture) at Bath & North East Somerset Council, said: “Summer evenings are a wonderful time to visit the Roman Baths, as the daytime crowds disappear, the sun begins to set and the torches are lit. Last year more than 50,000 people visited on summer evenings, including 1,000 local residents who enjoyed Torchlit Summer Evenings for free with their Discovery Card.”
For those who want to enjoy the experience with a glass of fizz in hand, a pop-up bar beside the Great Bath will serve Prosecco and soft drinks every evening from 6pm to 9.15pm.
The Pump Room restaurant will stay open late for dinner and drinks, with live music every evening. Last orders 8.30pm. Book a table online or call 01225 444477. (July and August only.)
The Roman Baths Kitchen offers a more informal setting with alfresco dining. Book a table online or call 01225 477877.
The Roman Baths shop will stay open every day until 9.45pm.
Admission to the Roman Baths is free for Bath and North East Somerset residents with a Discovery Card.
