Event Description:

Prof Graham Davis (lately of Bath Spa University) will be talking about the history of the Langtons of Newton Park, covering the rise and fall of a landed estate over nearly three hundred years. The Langtons had merchant origins in Bristol and through an astute marriage policy ended up in the English aristocracy. Col. William Gore Langton was a radical MP and Lady Anna Gore Langton was a leading suffragist; both remarkable figures in 19th century politics. The estate was eventually sold to the Duchy of Cornwall, laying the foundations for Corston’s links to the Duchy.
