Homesearch is the name of Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Housing Allocation Scheme. It sets out the way that social housing is allocated within the district and how priorities for those registered with the scheme are determined. Homesearch is based upon the principles of Choice Based Lettings. The scheme offers people a choice about where they would like to live and gives priority to those people with the most housing need.

Homesearch operates by a partnership between Bath and North East Somerset Council and Registered Housing Providers (also known as Registered Social Landlords or Housing Associations), who offer social housing tenancies in the area.

Why are we consulting?

Since the last policy update in October 2017, there have been changes to legislation and Guidance relating to the access and provision of social Housing. These include,

The Homeless Reduction Act (2017).

  •  Homelessness Code of Guidance for Local Authorities February (2018).
  •  Statutory Guidance on Social Housing allocations for local authorities in England (November 2018).

The consultation seeks to confirm how we will incorporate the changes into our allocation scheme, The Homesearch Policy.

What happens next:

At the end of the consultation period we will consider all comments and propose changes to the policy to the Lead Cabinet Member for Housing.
