Bath’s Clean Air Zone

taxi driver by car

In 2020, we’re introducing a Clean Air Charging Zone (CAZ) in Bath to improve air quality across the city by 2021.

This means that if you’re still driving a higher-emission, non-compliant taxi or private hire vehicle, you’ll be charged every day that you drive in the zone.

It's therefore important that you keep abreast of the final decision on emissions standards for Bath's Clean Air Zone, which will be published here in October 2018.

Review of B&NES Council’s Taxi Policy & Conditions

We are reviewing our Taxi Policy & Conditions to reflect current best practice. This includes clarifying which petrol and diesel vehicles will be compliant when Bath’s Clean Air Charging Zone is introduced, and other initiatives to promote public safety and ensure excellent customer service.

The consultation took place between 16 July - 14 September 2018. It is now closed, however you can download and read the proposed Policy & Conditions below.

Thank you for reading the documents.

How to check your vehicle compliance

We strongly recommend that you contact your dealer or manufacturer to confirm your vehicle’s emission standard. Unfortunately car registration dates cannot be relied upon.

No decision has yet been made, but it's likely that the following vehicles will meet Bath's Clean Air Zone emission standards. A final decision will be made in October 2018.

  • Euro 6 diesel vehicles (from approx. 2015)
  • Euro 4, 5 or 6 petrol vehicles (from approx. 2006)
  • Fully electric or hydrogen fuel cell vehicles

Vechicles that don't meet the new emisison standards will be charged to drive in the zone, once in every 24-hour period.

The final decision on the revised policy and conditions will be brought before Cabinet in December 2018.
